There’s something about the word missions that can unintentionally shrink our thinking.
For many believers, “missions” conjures up images of airplanes, passports, jungle villages, or distant lands across oceans. And yes—those are beautiful and biblical expressions of missions. But if we only think globally, we may unintentionally neglect the mission field that is sitting right in front of us. As the Church, we are not merely supporters of missions. We are the mission. Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:19–20 were not addressed to a committee—they were given to His disciples. And through them, to us. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” The command is expansive, but it begins with obedience wherever we stand.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)
Washington is Jerusalem to us. Judea is likened to, perhaps, Illinois. Samaria is the rest of the US. And the rest of the nations of the World are the ends of the earth.
A healthy church understands that missions is not a just a location. It is also a mindset.
Let’s consider four vital expressions of missions within the life of the local church.

This is a great opportunity for them to be introduced to Jesus or be refreshed in their faith, along with many other fellow believers and unbelievers. Four new Youth Group members are joining the trek this year. In order for everyone to go, each member has contributed a set amount, and the Youth Group seeks to raise a total of $5,500 in additional funds to cover the rest of the cost. We have raised over $2,000. There is no pressure to give beyond your means, but if you would like to contribute to this effort please click on our giving site link included in the "ONLINE GIVING" section of this email OR write "Youth Scholarships" in the memo line of your check. | | | |
